THE CHAIN CABLES ORDER, 1930

ANCHOR AND CHAIN CABLE.

Tests for Chain Cables of Iron and Cast Steel.

The Chain Cables Order, 1930, dated October 29, 1930, made by the Minister for Industry and Commerce under the Anchors and Chain Cables Act, 1899 (62 & Vict., c. 23).

WHEREAS by section 8 of the Anchors and Chain Cables Act, 1899, it is provided, inter alia, as follows :—

(1) The tensile strain and the breaking strain used for the purpose of testing anchors and chain cables shall be those specified in the Second Schedule to this Act, or such tests as are substituted by Order of the Board of Trade under this section.

(2) Any test approved by the Board of Trade as a test equal or superior to either of the tests specified in the said Schedule may be substituted by Order of that Board for that test.

AND WHEREAS by the Testing of Short Link Chain Cables Order, 1900, made on the 26th day made June, 1900, the Board of Trade substituted the breaking and tensile strains specified in the Schedule thereto for those specified in the Second Schedule to the said Act as the tests to be used for the purpose of testing Short Link Chain Cables of iron.

AND WHEREAS it is expedient that the said Order should be revoked.

AND WHEREAS the Minister for Industry and Commerce has approved the tests specified in the Schedule hereto as tests equal or superior to the tests for chain cables specified in the Second Schedule to the said Act.

NOW, therefore, the Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the power conferred on him by the said section of the said Act, and of all other powers him hereunto enabling, does hereby order as follows :—

1. The tests specified in the Schedule hereto shall be and the same are hereby substituted for those specified in the Second Schedule to the Anchors and Chain Cables Act, 1899, as the tensile and breaking strains to be used for the purpose of testing chain cables.

2. The Testing of Short Link Chain Cables Order, 1900, dated the 26th day of June, 1900, is hereby revoked.

3. This Order may be cited as the Chain Cables Order, 1930.

The Breaking and Tensile Strains for Chain Cables of Cast Steel shall in every case be greater by forty per cent. than those specified in this Schedule for Iron Common Links of the same type and diameter.
