10/02/1925: Gárda Síochána Reward Fund (Administration) Regulations, 1925.

In pursuance of the powers conferred by Section 18 of the Gárda Síochána Act, 1924, I, CAOIMHGHÍN Ó H-UIGÍN, Minister for Justice, with the concurrence of the Minister for Finance, do hereby prescribe the following regulations for the administration of the Gárda Síochána Reward Fund:—

I. In these regulations

the expression "the Force" means the Gárda Síochána;

the expression "the Fund" means the Gárda Síochána Reward Fund.

2. Rewards may be made to members of the Force (not being of higher rank than Chief Superintendent) who have shown exceptional zeal, intelligence or ability in the discharge of police duties, or who have performed acts of exceptional bravery. Such rewards shall ordinarily be made by the Commissioner on the recommendation of a Reward Board, but the Commissioner shall have power, subject to the approval of the Minister for Justice, to grant individual rewards in exceptional cases without previous reference to the Reward Board.

3. The Reward Board shall consist of not less than two officers of the Force, not being of lower rank than Assistant Commissioner, who shall be nominated by the Commissioner. Two members of the Reward Board present at any meeting with the authority of the Commissioner shall constitute a quorum. The Reward Board shall carefully weigh the merits of each case referred for their consideration, and shall submit their recommendation for the decision of the Commissioner.

4. All rewards made under these regulations shall be paid out of the Fund, provided however that the total amount of rewards payable in any financial year shall not exceed the income of the Fund for that year together with any balance remaining undisposed of at the end of the previous financial year.

5. If it appears to the Minister for Justice that the Fund is more than sufficient to provide the sums payable as rewards under these regulations, he may, with the consent of the Minister for Finance, authorise the application of the surplus for other purposes for the benefit of members of the Force.

6. These regulations may be cited as the Gárda Síochána Reward Fund (Administration) Regulations, 1925.
