Exchequer bills purchased shall be cancelled or exchanged for new bills.

53. It shall and may be lawful for the said commissioners to cause all or any part of the Exchequer bills purchased by them or on their account, under the provisions of this Act, to be delivered to the paymasters of Exchequer bills, to be cancelled within five days after the expiration of the quarter of the year in which such bills shall have been so purchased; and the said paymasters are in such case hereby required, upon the delivery thereof, to cancel the same accordingly; and it shall and may be lawful to the said commissioners to exchange from time to time any part of such Exchequer bills, not so delivered to be cancelled for new bills of the like amount (if they shall deem it expedient to do so), according to the usual course of the Exchequer, anything herein-before contained to the contrary thereof in anywise notwithstanding.
