S.I. No. 242/2025 - Justice (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2025

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 10th June, 2025.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 6 (1) of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act 1939 (No. 36 of 1939), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Justice (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2025.

(2) This Order comes into operation on 5 June 2025.

2. The name of the Department of State, the present name of which is, in the Irish language, an Roinn Dlí agus Cirt and, in the English language, the Department of Justice, is altered, in the Irish language, to that of an Roinn Dlí agus Cirt, Gnóthaí Baile agus Imirce and, in the English language, to that of the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.

3. The title of the Minister having charge of the Department of State, whose present title is, in the Irish language, an tAire Dlí agus Cirt and, in the English language, the Minister for Justice, is altered, in the Irish language, to that of an tAire Dlí agus Cirt, Gnóthaí Baile agus Imirce and, in the English language, to that of the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.

4. In any enactment or any instrument made under an enactment –

(a) references to the Department of Justice shall be construed as references to the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, and

(b) references to the Minister for Justice shall be construed as references to the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.
