S.I. No. 225/2023 - Maritime Area Planning Act 2021 (Commencement of Certain Provisions) Order 2023

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

I, DARRAGH O’BRIEN, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (5) of the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021 (No. 50 of 2021), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021 (Commencement of Certain Provisions) Order 2023.

2. The 15th day of May 2023 is appointed as the day on which Part 2 (other than Chapter 9) of the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021 (No. 50 of 2021) shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order appoints 15 May 2023 as the date on which Part 2 (with the exception of Chapter 9) of the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021 (No. 50 of 2021) comes into operation.

Part 2 provides for the preparation and publication of Maritime Spatial Plans; for the designation of public bodies who may make Designated Maritime Area Plans, and for the preparation and publication of Designated Maritime Area Plans. The Part also provides for judicial review of Maritime Spatial Plans and Designated Maritime Area Plans and for compliance by public bodies with the National Marine Planning Framework.
