S.I. No. 720/2022 - Electoral Reform Act 2022 (Commencement) (No. 2) Order 2022

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 30th December, 2022.

I, DARRAGH O’BRIEN, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (5) of the Electoral Reform Act 2022 (No. 30 of 2022), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Electoral Reform Act 2022 (Commencement) (No. 2) Order 2022.

2. The 1st day of January 2023 is appointed as the day on which the following provisions of the Electoral Reform Act 2022 (No. 30 of 2022) shall come into operation:

(a) section 7 of Chapter 2 of Part 2;

(b) sections 179, 180, 181, 184, 185, 186, 188, 190, 191, 194, 195, 196, 197, 198 and 199 (insofar as it relates to the insertion of section 91 into the Electoral Act 1997 (No. 25 of 1997)) of Part 7.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

In exercise of the powers conferred on the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage by section 1 (5) of the Electoral Reform Act 2022 (No. 30 of 2022), this Order appoints 1 January 2023 as the day on which certain provisions in Parts 2 and 7 of that Act come into operation.
