S.I. No. 233/2018 - Building Control (Prescribed Qualifications) Regulations 2018

I, DAMIEN ENGLISH, Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government by section 64 of the Building Control Act 2007 (No. 21 of 2007) (as adapted by the Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2017 ( S.I. No. 358 of 2017 )), which powers are delegated to me by the Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) (No. 2) Order 2017 ( S.I. No. 352 of 2017 ), hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Building Control (Prescribed Qualifications) Regulations 2018.

2. The qualifications specified in the Schedule to these Regulations is prescribed for the purposes of section 14 (2)(a)(i) of the Building Control Act 2007 (No. 21 of 2007).

SCHEDULE

PRESCRIBED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are prescribed pursuant to section 14 (2)(a)(i) of the Building Control Act 2007 :

(i) Master of Architecture Degree (M.Arch.) awarded by University College Dublin.

(ii) Bachelor of Architecture Degree (B.Arch.) awarded by University College Dublin.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

Section 14 of the Building Control Act 2007 provides that the Minister may prescribe additional qualifications and educational bodies to those recognised in the Act as being suitable for the purpose of the registration of certain persons on the register of Architects established under Part 3 of the Building Control Act 2007 .

The Master of Architecture Degree awarded by University College Dublin and the Bachelor of Architecture Degree awarded by University College Dublin as referred to in the Schedule, is newly prescribed under these Regulations.
