S.I. No. 170/2018 - Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (Section 4(2)) (Designation of Professions: Counsellors and Psychotherapists and Establishment of Registration Board) Regulations 2018

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 25th May, 2018.

WHEREAS I, SIMON HARRIS, Minister for Health, being satisfied that the provisions of subsections (2) and (4) of section 4 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (No. 27 of 2005) (as adapted by the Health and Children (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2011 ( S.I. No. 219 of 2011 )) have been complied with and considering it appropriate and in the public interest to do so:

NOW, I, SIMON HARRIS, Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 4 (2) of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (No. 27 of 2005) (as adapted by the Health and Children (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2011 ( S.I. No. 219 of 2011 )), hereby make the following regulations with respect to which, pursuant to section 4 (8) of that Act, a draft has been laid before each House of the Oireachtas and a resolution approving of the draft has been passed by each such House:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (Section 4(2)) (Designation of professions: counsellors and psychotherapists and establishment of registration board) Regulations 2018.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on 2 July 2018.

2. The health or social care professions of counsellor and psychotherapist are designated for the purposes of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (No. 27 of 2005).

3. A board, which shall be known as the Counsellors and Psychotherapists Registration Board, is hereby established as the registration board for both the designated profession of counsellor and the designated profession of psychotherapist.

These regulations will designate the new professions of counsellor and psychotherapist under the Act and will establish one registration board for both professions with effect from 2 July 2018
