S.I. No. 592/2017 - Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Act 2017 (Commencement) Order 2017

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

I, SIMON HARRIS, Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 9 (2) of the Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Act 2017 (No. 32 of 2017), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Act 2017 (Commencement) Order 2017.

2. The 20th day of December 2017 is appointed as the day on which the Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Act 2017 (No. 32 of 2017), shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order will commence the Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Act 2017 (No. 32 of 2017) with effect from 20th of December 2017.

The effect of the Order will be amend certain provisions of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 to address gaps relating to the appointment of professional members to the Health and Social Care Professionals Council and to registration boards; to permit a registration board to apply training and education conditions to applicants for registration who have not yet practised their profession; and to provide further conditions for the registration of physiotherapists/physical therapists in the register of physiotherapists.
