S.I. No. 555/2015 - Children First Act 2015 (Commencement) Order 2015.


Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

I, JAMES REILLY, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 of the Children First Act 2015 (No. 36 of 2015), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Children First Act 2015 (Commencement) Order 2015.

2. The 11th day of December 2015 is appointed as the day on which—

(a) sections 1 to 5, and

(b) section 28,

of the Children First Act 2015 (No. 36 of 2015) shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

This Order provides for the commencement of sections 1 to 5 inclusive and section 28 of the Children First Act 2015 (No. 36 of 2015) with effect from 11 December 2015.

Section 1 deals with the short title and commencement. Section 2 provides for the definitions of certain terms used in the Act. Section 3 provides for the Minister to make regulations under the Act. Section 4 provides for the serving of a notice that is required to be served on a person under this Act. Section 5 provides that the costs involved in the administration of the Children First Act 2015 will be paid out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas, with the sanction of the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform. Section 28 of the Act inserts a new section 24A into the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997 to provide that the common law defence of reasonable chastisement is abolished.
