3. Section 2(1) of the Act of 2003 is amended by inserting the following definitions—
“‘applied research’ means original investigation undertaken in order to acquire new knowledge directed primarily towards a specific practical aim or objective;
‘strategic areas of opportunity for the State’ shall be construed in accordance with section 7(6);”.
