DATA PROTECTION (AMENDMENT) ACT 2003 (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER 2007

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 2nd October, 2007.

I, BRIAN LENIHAN, Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 23(3) of the Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2003 (No. 6 of 2003), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2003 (Commencement) Order 2007.

2. The 1st day of October 2007 is fixed as the day on which—

(a) section 16, and

(b) section 22, in so far as it is not already in operation,

of the Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2003 (No. 6 of 2003) come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

This Order brings into operation section 16 and section 22 in so far as it repeals the Third Schedule to the Data Protection Act, 1988 (which relates to registration of data controllers and data processors) of the Data Protection (Amendment) Act, 2003 with effect from the 1st of October 2007.
