THE SOLICITORS ACTS, 1954 TO 2002 (APPRENTICES' FEES) REGULATIONS, 2006

The Law Society of Ireland in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Sections 5 and 82 of the Solicitors Act, 1954 and with the concurrence of the President of the High Court HEREBY MAKE the following Regulations:

1.      These Regulations may be cited as The Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 2002 (Apprentices’ Fees) Regulations, 2006.

2.       These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of August 2006 and The Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 2002 (Apprentices’ Fees) Regulations, 2005 ( S.I. No. 883 of 2005 ) shall from that date stand revoked.

3.       (a)  The words and phrases in these Regulations and in the Schedule hereto shall have the meanings assigned by the Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 2002 and except insofar as it may be inconsistent with the provisions of the Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 2002 the Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 1994 (Apprenticeship and Education) Regulations, 2001 ( S.I. No. 546 of 2001 ).

(b)  The Interpretation Act, 1937 shall apply for the purposes of the interpretation of these Regulations as it applies for the purposes of the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas, except insofar as it may be inconsistent with the provisions of the Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 2002 or The Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 1994 (Apprenticeship and Education) Regulations, 2001 ( S.I. No. 546 of 2001 ) or these Regulations.

4.       As and from the date on which these Regulations shall come into operation, the fees specified in the Schedule hereto shall be paid to the Society in respect of courses and examinations provided for in The Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 1994 (Apprenticeship and Education) Regulations, 2001 ( S.I. No. 546 of 2001 ).

8.   On application for entry of a name on the roll of solicitors.

10.  The subject examination fee for the examinations in European Union Law, Professional Conduct and Solicitors Accounts in the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test

11.  The subject examination fee for the examinations in Constitutional Law, and at the election of the candidate, Company or Criminal Law, Contract & Tort, Land Law & Conveyancing and Probate & Taxation.

12.  On application for a re-check of a subject examination script for any of the examinations provided for in The Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 1994 (Apprenticeship and Education) Regulations, 2001 ( S.I. No. 546 of 2001 ).

13.  Administration fee for processing an application under The Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 2002 (Apprenticeship and Education) (Recognition of Qualifications) Regulations, 2004 ( S.I. No. 717 of 2004 ).

The principal purpose of the Instrument is to provide for increases in the fees payable to the Law Society of Ireland in respect of courses and examinations provided for in The Solicitors Acts, 1954 to 1994 (Apprenticeship and Education) Regulations, 2001 ( S.I. No. 546 of 2001 operative from 1 August, 2006.
