S.I. No. 12/2005 - Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations 2005


I, MARTIN CULLEN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 11 of the Road Traffic Act 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and the National Roads and Road Traffic (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 298 of 2002 (as adapted by the Public Enterprise (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 305 of 2002 )), hereby make the following regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles (Amendment) Regulations 2005.

(2) These Regulations come into operation on 20 January 2005.

2. Article 80(3)(b) of the Road Traffic (Construction Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations 1963 ( S.I. No. 190 of 1963 ) is amended by substituting “65 kilometres per hour” for “40 miles per hour”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend Article 80 of the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations 1963 to provide that, from 20 January 2005, the maximum speed that a bus (single deck or double deck) may be driven at when carrying standee passengers is 65 kilometres per hour.
