S.I. No. 84/2002 - Transport (Railway Infrastructure) Act 2001 (Additional Functions) (Integrated Ticketing) Order, 2002


I, Mary O'Rourke, T.D., Minister for Public Enterprise, in exercise of the power conferred on me by section 11 (2) of the Transport (Railway Infrastructure) Act, 2001 (No. 55 of 2001), with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby order as follows:

1.         This Order may be cited as the Transport (Railway Infrastructure) Act 2001 (Additional Functions) (Integrated Ticketing) Order 2002.

2.         In this Order “integrated ticketing system” means a system of ticketing which enables a passenger to use a single ticket on one or more public transport services by road or rail or both for a single trip or multiple trips on such transport, irrespective of the number of public transport modes or operators involved in making that trip or those trips.

3.         The Railway Procurement Agency shall have the following functions in relation to integrated ticketing systems:

(a)      to secure the provision of, or to provide, such integrated ticketing systems as may be determined, from time to time, by the Minister, and

(b) to enter into agreements or arrangements with other persons in order to secure the provision of such systems, whether by means of a concession, joint venture, public private partnership or any other means.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order confers an additional function on the Railway Procurement Agency in relation to procurement of integrated ticketing systems for public transport services by rail or road as may be determined by the Minister for Public Enterprise.
