S.I. No. 434/2001 - Oireachtas (Allowances To Members) (Special Secretarial Allowance) Regulations, 2001


I, Charlie McCreevy, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section (2B) (inserted by section 16 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial, Parliamentary, Judicial and Court Offices (Amendment) Act, 1998 (No. 5 of 1998)) of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Act, 1962 (No. 32 of 1962), hereby make the following Regulations:

1.      These Regulations may be cited as the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Special Secretarial Allowance) Regulations, 2001.

2.      In these regulations “the 1962 Act” means the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Act, 1962 (No. 32 of 1962),

3.      These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of December, 2000.

4.      The amount of the special secretarial allowance payable under Section (2A) of the 1962 Act shall be increased as follows:

(a) in the case of a member of Dáil Éireann from £5,000 per year to £7,000 per year and

(b) in the case of a member of Seanad Éireann from £3,750 per year to £5,250 per year

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations provide for an increase in the Special Secretarial Assistance Allowance payable to Members of the Oireachtas as a contribution towards the engagement of additional secretarial assistance by Members. From the 1st day of December 2000, an annual allowance of £7,000 shall be payable to a TD and £5,250 shall be payable to a Senator.
