S.I. No. 93/2000 - European Communities (Meat Products and Other Products of Animal Origin) (Amendment) Regulations, 2000.
I, Joe Walsh, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive No. 97/76/EC of 16 December 19971 , make the following regulations: | ||||||||
1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Meat Products and Other Products of Animal Origin) (Amendment) Regulations, 2000. | ||||||||
2. The European Communities (Meat Products and Other Products of Animal Origin) Regulations, 1995 ( S.I. No. 126 of 1995 ), are amended - | ||||||||
(a) by the substitution for the definition of “the Council Directive” of the following definition: | ||||||||
“ ‘Council Directive’ means Council Directive 77/99/EEC of 21 December 19762 as updated and amended by Council Directive 92/5/EEC of 10 February 19923 and subsequently amended by Council Directive No. 92/45/EEC of 16 June 19924 , | ||||||||
Council Directive No. 92/116/EEC of 17 December 19925 , Council Directive No. 92/118/EEC of 17 December 19926 , Council Directive No. 92/120/EEC of 17 December 19927 , Commission Decision No. 94/383/EC of 3 June 19948 , Council Directive 95/68 of 22 December, 19959 and Council Directive No. 97/76/EC of 16 December 1997;1 ”, | ||||||||
(b) in Regulation 6(2), by the substitution for subparagraphs (i) and (ii) of: | ||||||||
“Article 4, section A, point (a)(i) and sections C, D and E of Directive 64/433/EEC,”, | ||||||||
(c) in the Second Schedule, Chapter V, Section 4, by the substitution for subparagraph (d) of: | ||||||||
(d) in the Third Schedule, Chapter III, by the insertion after section 6 of the following section: | ||||||||
“7. Raw materials must come from animals which, following ante mortem and post mortem inspection, have been judged fit for human consumption.”. | ||||||||

These Regulations give effect to Council Directive 97/76 EEC of 16th December, 1997, which lays down rules applicable to minced meat, meat preparations and certain other products of animal origin. The Regulations impose additional production conditions for stomachs, bladders and intestines, prescribe additional labelling rules and modify the circumstances under which certain derogations from the rules for the processing of meat products can be granted. | ||||||||
