S.I. No. 5/2000 - European Communities (Trade in Bovine Animals and Swine) (Amendment) Regulations, 2000.


I, JOE WALSH, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1997), and for the purpose of giving effect to Directive 64/432/EEC(1) of 26 June 1964, as amended and updated by Council Directive 97/12/EC(2) of 17 March 1997, in so far as it relates to an identity check on bovine animals, hereby make the following Regulations:—

1. (a) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Trade in Bovine Animals and Swine) (Amendment) Regulations, 2000.

(b) The collective citation the “European Communities (Trade in Bovine Animals and Swine) Regulations, 1997 and 2000” shall include these Regulations.

(c) The European Communities (Trade in Bovine Animals and Swine) Regulations, 1997 and 2000 shall be construed together as one.

2. These Regulations shall come into force on the 14th day of February, 2000.

3. The European Communities (Trade in Bovine Animals and Swine) Regulations, 1997 ( S.I. No. 270 of 1997 ) are hereby amended by the addition of a new paragraph (l) to Regulation 4 as follows:

“(l) in the case of a bovine animal intended for export, have had its current status and identification and origin confirmed by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development.”

These Regulations implement Directive 64/432/EEC of 26 June 1964 on animal health problems affecting intra-Community trade in bovine animals and swine, as amended and updated by Council Directive 97/12/EC of 17 March 1997, in so far as it relates to an identity check for bovine animals.
