DUNDALK URBAN DISTRICT LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS ORDER, 1998

The Minister for the Environment and Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 24 of the Local Government Act, 1994 (No. 8 of 1994), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Dundalk Urban District Local Electoral Areas Order, 1998.

2. In this Order "the Urban District" means the Urban District of Dundalk as altered for the purposes of local elections by the Local Government (Boundaries) (Town Elections) Regulations, 1994 ( S.I. No. 114 of 1994 ) and references to the urban boundary shall be construed accordingly.

3. (1) The Urban District of Dundalk shall be divided into the local electoral areas which are named in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

(2) Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area set forth in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

(3) The number of members of the council of the Urban District of Dundalk to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set forth in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of that local electoral area.

4. (1) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to a line drawn along any road, avenue, street or river shall be construed as a reference to an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such road, avenue, street or river.

(2) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to the point at which any road, avenue, street or river intersects or joins any other road, avenue, street or river shall be construed as a reference to the point at which an imaginary line drawn along the centre of one would be intersected or joined by an imaginary line drawn along the centre of the other.

(3) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to the point at which any road, avenue, street or river intersects or joins a boundary shall be construed as a reference to the point at which an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such road, avenue, street or river would intersect or join such boundary.

5. The Dundalk Urban District Local Electoral Areas Order, 1994 ( S.I. No. 111 of 1994 ) is hereby revoked.

That part of the Urban District situated within a line drawn as follows: —

Commencing at the intersection of the northern boundary of the Urban District by the Castletown River, thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along the Castletown River to its intersection by the imaginary northerly projection of St. Nicholas Avenue; thence in a southerly direction along the said imaginary projection and St. Nicholas Avenue to its junction with Castletown Road; thence in a north-westerly direction along Castletown Road to its junction with Legion Avenue; thence commencing in a southerly direction and proceeding along Legion Avenue, McSwiney Street, Demesne Road and Park Villas to the junction of Park Villas with Magnet Road; thence in a south-easterly direction along

Magnet Road to its junction with Park Street, thence commencing in a southwesterly direction and proceeding along Park Street, Dublin Street and Hill Street to the junction of Hill Street with The Long Avenue; thence in a south-easterly direction along The Long Avenue to its junction with the Dundalk Inner Relief Road; thence in a northerly direction along the Dundalk Inner Relief Road to its junction with Coes Road; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along Coes Road to its intersection by the Blackwater River thence in an easterly direction along the Blackwater River to its intersection by Red Barns Road; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along Red Barns Road to its junction with Point Road; thence in a westerly direction along Point Road to its intersection by the imaginary southerly projection of the eastern boundary of the Point Road Pitch and Putt Course; thence in a northerly direction along the said imaginary projection, the said boundary and its imaginary northerly projection to its intersection by the Urban boundary; thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along the said Urban boundary to the starting point.

Dundalk Number Two

That part of the Urban District situated within a line drawn as follows: —

Commencing at the intersection of the western boundary of the Urban District by the route of the former Bundoran-Dundalk railway line; thence in a north-easterly direction along the route of the said former railway line and the route of the former branch railway line connecting the former Bundoran-Dundalk railway line with the former Dundalk-Greenore railway line, to the intersection of the route of the last—

mentioned former branch railway line by Hill Street at Hill Street Bridge; thence in a southerly direction along Hill Street to its junction with The Long Avenue; thence in a south-easterly direction along The Long Avenue to its junction with the Dundalk Inner Relief Road; thence in a northerly direction along the Dundalk Inner Relief Road to its junction with Coes Road; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along Coes Road to its intersection by the Blackwater River; thence in an easterly direction along the Blackwater River to its intersection by Red Barns Road; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along Red Barns Road to its junction with Point Road; thence in a westerly direction along Point Road to its intersection by the imaginary southerly projection of the eastern boundary of the Point Road Pitch and Putt Course; thence in a northerly direction along the said imaginary projection, the said boundary and its imaginary northerly projection to its intersection by the Urban boundary; thence commencing in a easterly direction and proceeding along the said Urban boundary to the starting point.

Dundalk Number Three

That part of the Urban District not situated in Dundalk Number One Electoral Area or Dundalk Number Two Electoral Area.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The effect of this Order is to amend the division of Dundalk Urban District into local electoral areas and to fix the number of members to be elected for each electoral area.
