S.I. No. 307/1997 - Social Welfare (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 6 (1) of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1939 (No. 36 of 1939), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 12th day of July, 1997.

2. The name of the Department of State, the present name whereof is, in the Irish language, an Roinn Leasa Shóisialaigh and in the English language, the Department of Social Welfare, is hereby altered, in the Irish language, to that of an Roinn Gnóthaí Sóisialacha, Pobail agus Teaghlaigh and in the English language, to that of the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs.

3. The title of the Minister having charge of the Department of State, whose present title is, in the Irish language, an tAire Leasa Shóisialaigh and, in the English language, the Minister for Social Welfare, is hereby altered, in the Irish language, to that of an tAire Gnóthaí Sóisialacha, Pobail agus Teaghlaigh and, in the English language, to that of the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs.

4. In any enactment—

( a ) references to the Department of Social Welfare shall be construed as references to the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs;

( b ) references to the Minister for Social Welfare shall be construed as references to the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order changes the name of the Department of Social Welfare to that of the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs and the title of the Minister for Social Welfare to that of the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs.
