EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (ENERGY LABELLING OF HOUSEHOLD ELECTRIC WASHING MACHINES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1997.

 I, ALAN M. DUKES, Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving further effect to Commission Directive 95/12/EC of 23 May, 19951 as amended by Commission Directive 96/89/EC of 17 December, 19962 and to Council Directive 92/75/EEC of 22 September, 19923, in so far as it applies to household appliances to which the Commission Directive as so amended applies, hereby make the following regulations:—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Energy Labelling of Household Electric Washing Machines) (Amendment) Regulations, 1997.

(2) These Regulations and the European Communities (Energy Labelling of Household Electric Washing Machines) Regulations 1996 ( S.I. No. 109 of 1996 ) may be cited as the European Communities (Energy Labelling of Household Electric Washing Machines) Regulations, 1996 to 1997.

2. Regulation 3 of the European Communities (Energy Labelling of Household Electric Washing Machines) Regulations, 1996 ( S.I. No. 109 of 1996 ), is hereby amended by the insertion after paragraph (d) of the following paragraph:

"(dd) until the 30th day of June, 1998 machines with no internal means to heat water."

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of the Regulations is to give legal effect to Commission Directive 96/89/EC and to Commission Directive 95/12/EC of 23rd May, 1995 and Council Directive 92/75/EEC of 22nd September, 1992 in so far as it relates to household electric washing machines.

The Regulations come into operation on 15th May, 1997 and amend the European Communities (Energy Labelling of Household Electric Washing Machines) Regulations, 1996 (S.I. 109 of 1996) with regard to the addition of "until the 30th day of June 1998, of machines with no internal means to heat water" to the list of appliances excluded from the Regulations.
