NATIONAL STANDARDS AUTHORITY OF IRELAND ACT, 1996 (COMMENCEMENT AND ESTABLISHMENT DAY) ORDER, 1997

I, PAT RABBITTE, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 2 and 6 of the National Standards Authority of Ireland Act, 1996 (No. 28 of 1996), and the Enterprise and Employment (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) (No. 2) Order, 1996 ( S.I. No. 350 of 1996 ), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the National Standards Authority of Ireland Act, 1996 (Commencement and Establishment Day) Order, 1997.

2. (1) The 1st day of January, 1997, is hereby fixed as the day on which the National Standards Authority of Ireland Act, 1996 (No. 28 of 1996), other than Part IV thereof, shall be deemed to have come into operation.

(2) It is hereby fixed that Part IV of the National Standards Authority of Ireland Act, 1996 , shall come into operation on the establishment day.

3. The 14th day of April, 1997, is hereby appointed as the establishment day on which the National Standards Authority of Ireland shall stand established.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of these Regulations is to give effect to the National Standards Authority of Ireland Act, 1996 . It cites the 1st of January 1997 as the commencement date for the Act (with the exception of Part IV which deals with offences and penalties). The 14th of April 1997 is declared as the establishment date for the National Standards Authority of Ireland and as the date at which Part IV of the Act comes into operation.
