WORKER PARTICIPATION (STATE ENTERPRISES) ORDER, 1996.

I, Richard Bruton, T.D., Minister for Enterprise and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 23 (as amended by section 21 of the Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Act, 1988 (No. 13 of 1988)) of the Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Act, 1977 (No. 6 of 1977), and after consultation with the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications, hereby make the following Order in respect to which, pursuant to section 4(4) of the said Act of 1977, a draft has been laid before each House of the Oireachtas and a resolution approving the draft has been passed by each such House:

1. This Order may be cited as the Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Order, 1996.

2. The Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Order, 1988 ( S.I. No. 149 of 1988 ), in so far as it relates to Bord Telecom Eireann, is hereby revoked.

3. The number of directors of Bord Telecom Eireann shall be twelve, and the appropriate number of those directors shall be two.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The effect of the Order is to fix the number of directors of Bord Telecom Eireann and the number of worker directors to be appointed following election by the employees, in accordance with the provisions of the Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Acts, 1977 and 1988 and the provisions of section 10 of the Telecommunications (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1996 .

This Order also revokes the provisions of the Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Order, 1988 in so far as it relates to Bord Telecom Eireann.
