S.I. No. 300 of 1996.

INLAND POST AMENDMENT (NO. 55) SCHEME, 1996

AN POST, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Section 70 of the Postal and Telecommunications Act, 1983 (No. 24 of 1983), and with the consent of the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications, hereby makes the following Scheme:

1. (1) This Scheme may be cited as the Inland Post Amendment (No. 55) Scheme, 1996.

(2) This Scheme shall be operative from the 1st day of April, 1996.

2. In this Scheme–

"The Principal Warrant" means the Inland Post Warrant, 1939 ( S.I. No. 202 of 1939 ).

"Scheme No. 46" means the Inland Post Amendment (No. 46) Scheme, 1990 ( S.I. No. 320 of 1990 )

"Scheme No. 52" means the Inland Post Amendment (No. 52) Scheme, 1995 ( S.I. No. 99 of 1995 ).

3. Section 8 of the First Schedule to the Principal Warrant, as inserted by Regulation 3 of Scheme No. 52, is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein of the entries in the First Schedule to this Scheme.

4. The First Schedule to the Inland Post Amendment (No. 31) Scheme, 1985 ( S.I. No. 94 of 1985 ), as inserted by Regulation 4 of Scheme No. 52, is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein of the entries in the Second Schedule to this Scheme.

5. The Eighth Schedule to the Principal Warrant, as inserted by Regulation 6 of Scheme No. 46 is hereby amended by the substitution for the entries therein of the entries in the Third Schedule to this Scheme.

6. Regulation 4(b) of Scheme No. 46 is deleted.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Scheme applies to the Inland Post Service and shall be operative from the 1st day of April, 1996. It authorises increases in the parcel post rates of postage and in the fees charged for EMS Courier Service. It also increases the weight limit and introduces a new rate structure for the Twenty-Four-Hour Parcel Service.
