GALWAY PILOTAGE (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1996

I, Seán Barrett, Minister for the Marine, having received an application in writing for the making of a pilotage order in relation to Galway Pilotage District from Galway Harbour Commissioners, being the pilotage authority for Galway Pilotage District, hereby, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 7 of, and the First Schedule to, the Pilotage Act, 1913, and the Communications (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1987 ( S.I. No. 91 of 1987 ), order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Galway Pilotage (Amendment) Order, 1996.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 22nd day of July, 1996.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The Schedule to the Pilotage Orders Confirmation (No. 2) Act, 1920, is hereby amended by the substitution of the following Article for Article 3 of the Galway Pilotage Order:

"Compulsory pilotage.

3. Pilotage shall be compulsory in that Pilotage District consisting of:

(a) the waters of the bay of Galway which lie eastward of an imaginary straight line drawn from Kilcolgan Point to the point of intersection of latitude 53° 14.70' North and longitude 09° 03.45' West and thence to the western end of the Dock Gates at Galway, and

(b) the waters of Galway Dock.".

Explanatory Note

The purpose of this Order is to extend the compulsory pilotage area of the Galway Pilotage District.
