Johnstown Castle Agricultural College (Amendment) Act, 1996

Amendment of Johnstown Castle Agricultural College (Amendment) Act, 1959.

1.—The Johnstown Castle Agricultural College (Amendment) Act, 1959 , is hereby amended by the substitution for section 3 of the following section:

“3.—(1) The Estate shall, subject to the provisions of this section, be used as a lay agricultural college and for the conduct of agricultural research and for no other purpose whatever.

(2) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 27 of the Agriculture (Research, Training and Advice) Act, 1988 , Teagasc—

(a) may dispose of such part of the Estate as it may determine but not exceeding 5 per cent. of the land comprised therein on the commencement of the Johnstown Castle Agricultural College (Amendment) Act, 1996, for use for environmental, heritage, amenity or recreational purposes, and

(b) may lease to the Environmental Protection Agency, for use by it for the purposes of the Environmental Protection Agency, such part of the Estate as may be determined by Teagasc.

(3) Land disposed of under paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of this section shall be used only for a purpose specified in that paragraph and land leased under paragraph (b) of that subsection shall be used only for a purpose specified in that paragraph.”.
