SOCIAL WELFARE ACT, 1993 (SECTION 8 (2)) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1993.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 8 (2) of the Social Welfare Act, 1993 (No. 5 of 1993), hereby orders as follows—

1 Citation.

1. This order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1993 (Section 8 (2)) (Commencement) Order, 1993.

2 Commencement.

2. Section 8 (2) of the Social Welfare Act, 1993 shall come into operation on the 26th day of July, 1993.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order brings Section 8 (2) of the Social Welfare Act, 1993 into effect from 26th July, 1993.

Section 8 (2) empowers the Minister to make Regulations for the purpose of prescribing the method of calculating a woman's reckonable earnings in order to determine the weekly rate of Maternity allowance payable. The section also makes provision to facilitate an increase in the maximum weekly rate.
