ROAD TRAFFIC (SPEED LIMITS) (COUNTY OF KILDARE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1992.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 46 of the said Act (as amended by section 25 of the Road Traffic Act, 1968 (No. 25 of 1968), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. (i) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) (Amendment) Regulations, 1992.

(ii) The Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) Regulations 1992 ( S.I. No. 49 of 1992 ) and these Regulations shall be construed together and may be cited collectively as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) Regulations 1992.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 30th day of July, 1992.

3. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) Regulations 1992 ( S.I. No. 49 of 1992 ).

4. The Principal Regulations are hereby amended by

( a ) the deletion of article 5 and the substitution therefor of the following:

"5. (1) 40 miles per hour shall be the speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on the roads specified in the Third Schedule to these Regulations.

(2) 70 miles per hour shall be the speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on the roads specified in the Fourth Schedule to these Regulations."

( b ) the addition after the Third Schedule of the following:

"FOURTH SCHEDULE.

Roads in respect of which a special speed limit of 70 miles per hour is prescribed.

1. The following road in and adjacent to the Urban District of Naas:

The Naas By-Pass."

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Kildare) Regulations, 1992 by prescribing a 70 miles per hour speed limit as being the maximum permissible speed on the Naas By-Pass.

Ambulances, Fire Brigades and Garda Síochána vehicles, while being used in the course of duty, are exempt from the speed limits.
