ALIENS (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1990.

I, RAY BURKE, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 5 of the Aliens Act, 1935 (No. 14 of 1935), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Aliens (Amendment) Order, 1990.

(2) The Aliens Orders, 1946 to 1989, and this Order may be cited together as the Aliens Orders, 1946 to 1990, and shall be construed together as one Order.

(3) The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

(4) This Order shall come into operation on the 26th day of February, 1990.

2. The Principal Order is hereby amended by substitution of the following Article for Article 5A (inserted by the Aliens (Amendment) Order, 1988 ( S.I. No. 55 of 1988 )):

"5 A An alien coming from a place outside the State other than Great Britain or Northern Ireland who is a citizen of Iran, Poland, Bulgaria or Sri Lanka shall not enter a port in the State for the purposes of transit unless he is the holder of a valid Irish transit visa".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order requires citizens of Iran, Poland, Bulgaria and Sri Lanka to have a valid Irish transit visa for the purposes of transitting the State with effect from 26th February, 1990.
