WILDLIFE ACT, 1976 (PROTECTION OF WILD ANIMALS) REGULATIONS, 1990.

I, BRENDAN DALY, Minister of State at the Department of Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 23 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (No. 39 of 1976), the Wildlife (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1987, and the Finance (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) Order, 1989 ( S.I. No. 201 of 1989 ), after consultation with the Minister for Agriculture and Food and the Minister for the Marine, and, in so far as these Regulations relate to animals of a species of fauna mentioned in Part I of the Schedule thereto, with the concurrence of the Minister for the Marine, hereby make the following Regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Wildlife Act, 1976 (Protection of Wild Animals) Regulations, 1990.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1 day of June, 1990.

3. Animals of a species of fauna specied in the Schedule to these Regulations shall be animals to which Section 23 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (No. 39 of 1976), applies.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of these Regulations is to add three species of invertebrates namely the Kerry Slug, Freshwater Crayfish and Freshwater Pearl Mussel and all species of marine turtles to the list of protected species mentioned in the Fifth Schedule to the Wildlife Act, 1976 .
