I, CHARLES J. HAUGHEY, acting Minister for Foreign Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Extradition (European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism) Act, 1987 (No. 1 of 1987), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Extradition (European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism) Act, 1987 (Designation of Convention Countries) Order, 1989.

2. The countries specified in the Schedule to this Order are hereby designated as the countries which are parties to the European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism, done at Strasbourg on the 27th day of January, 1977.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism entered into force for Ireland on 22 May, 1989.

This Convention, which has implications for extradition, is being implemented in the State on foot of a Ministerial Order which designates those States which are also parties to the Convention.
