NATURE RESERVE (GREAT SKELLIG) ESTABLISHMENT ORDER, 1988.

I, NOEL TREACY, Minister of State at the Department of Finance, after consultation with the Minister for Agriculture and Food, the Minister for the Marine and the Commissioners of Public Works in Ireland, being satisfied that the land specified in Article 2 of the following Order, being land to which section 15 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (No. 39 of 1976), applies, comprises a rocky offshore island which is the breeding habitat of certain species of seabirds and that the said habitat is likely to benefit if measures are taken for its protection and that it is desirable to establish the said land as a nature reserve and that the proper management of the said land as a nature reserve would not be precluded by any interest of any other person in or over the said land, for the purpose of conserving the said habitat hereby, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 15 of the said Act, the Wildlife (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1987 ( S.I. No. 156 of 1987 ), and the Finance (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) Order, 1988 ( S.I. No. 3 of 1988 , order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Nature Reserve (Great Skellig) Establishment Order, 1988.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 10th day of October, 1988.

2. (1) It is hereby declared that the land specified in paragraph (2) of this Article shall constitute and there is hereby established a nature reserve.

(2) The land referred to in paragraph (1) of this Article is the area of land comprising that part of Great Skellig Island situated in the townland of Great Skellig and county of Kerry, enclosed on a map annexed hereto within the inner margin of the black line and hatched thereon in black.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Order establishes part of the lands known as Great Skellig situated in the townland of Great Skellig, County Kerry, as a nature reserve so that it can be managed in such a way as to ensure the conservation of breeding habitat of certain seabird species.
