MISUSE OF DRUGS (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1987.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4 , 5 and 38 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977 (No. 12 of 1977), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Regulations, 1987.

2. Schedule 2 to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations, 1979 ( S.I. No. 32 of 1979 ) is hereby amended by the insertion, after the word "Bezitramide", of the word "Buprenorphine".

3. Schedule 4 to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations, 1979 is hereby amended by the deletion in sub-paragraph (b) of paragraph 3 of the word "dihydrocodeine", and by the insertion after paragraph 3 of the following paragraph:—

"3A. Any preparation of dihydrocodeine (not being a preparation designed for administration by injection) containing, per dosage unit, not more than 10 milligrammes of dihydrocodeine calculated as base and which in the case of an undivided preparation has a concentration of not more than 1.5 per cent of dihyrocodeine calculated as base."

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Schedule to the Misuse of Drugs Regulations, 1979 for the purpose of

(1) applying Schedule 2 type controls to the substance buprenorphine,

(2) reducing the concentration levels of dihydrocodeine in preparations above which Schedule 2 type controls apply and below which Schedule 4 type controls apply.
