COUNTY BOROUGH OF GALWAY (WARDS) REGULATIONS, 1986.

The Minister for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 88 of the Electoral Act, 1963 ( S.I. No. 19 of 1963 ), hereby makes the following regulations:—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the County Borough of Galway (Wards) Regulations, 1986.

2. These Regulations shall come into force on the 12th day of April, 1986.

3. In these Regulations "the County Borough" means the County Borough of Galway.

4. The County Borough shall be divided into the wards specified in the Schedule to these Regulations.

5. (1) Each ward shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to these Regulations opposite the name of such ward.

(2) In the Schedule to these Regulations:—

(a) a reference to a line drawn along any road, street, avenue, railway line, bridge, river or channel shall be construed as a reference to a line drawn along the centre of such road, street, avenue, railway line, bridge, river or channel;

(b) a reference to the point at which any road, street, avenue, railway line, bridge, river, channel or imaginary projection is said to intersect or to join any other road, street, avenue, railway line, bridge, river, channel or imaginary projection shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the centre of the one or, in the case of an imaginary projection, along the one, would be intersected or joined by a line drawn along the centre of the other, or, in the case of an imaginary projection, along the other;

(c) a reference to a point at which any road, street, avenue, railway line, river or imaginary projection intersects or joins a boundary shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the centre of such road, street, avenue, railway line or river or, in the case of an imaginary projection, along the projection would intersect or join such boundary.

Ballybrit

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of Tuam Road and the un-named road north-east of Ballybane Commercial Estate; thence in a north-easterly direction along Tuam Road to its junction with the County Borough boundary; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along the County Borough boundary to its intersection by Monivea Road; thence commencing in a south-westerly direction and proceeding along Monivea Road to its junction with the un-named road west of the Electricity Supply Board Station on Monivea Road; thence in a north-westerly direction along the said un-named road to the starting point.

Barna

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of the County Borough boundary and Rahoon Road; thence in a south-easterly direction along Rahoon Road to its junction with Bishop O'Donnell Road; thence in a south-westerly direction along Bishop O'Donnell Road to its junction with Kingston; thence commencing in a south-westerly direction and proceeding along Kingston and Spiddal Road to its intersection by the County Borough boundary; thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along the County Borough boundary to the starting point.

Castlegar

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of the County Borough boundary and Tuam Road; thence in a south-westerly direction along Tuam Road to its junction with Sandy Road; thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along Sandy Road to its junction with Headford Road; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along Headford Road to its intersection by the County Borough boundary; thence commencing in an easterly direction and proceeding along the County Borough boundary to the starting point.

Claddagh

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of Salthill Road Lower and the Crescent; thence in a south-easterly direction along the Crescent to its junction with Sea Road; thence in a north-easterly direction along Sea Road and William Street West to its junction with Dominick Street Upper: thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along Dominick Street Upper, Dominick Street Lower and William O'Brien Bridge to its intersection by the River Corrib; thence commencing in a southerly direction and proceeding along the River Corrib to its intersection by Wolfe Tone Bridge; thence in a south-westerly direction along Wolfe Tone Bridge to its intersection by the imaginary north-westerly projection of the eastern side of Ballyknow Quay; thence in a south-easterly direction along the said imaginary projection and the eastern side of Ballyknow Quay and an imaginary straight line drawn from the south-eastern end of Ballyknow Quay to the easternmost point of Nimmo's Pier, thence in a southerly direction along an imaginary straight line drawn due south from the last-mentioned point to its intersection by the County Borough boundary; thence commencing in a south-westerly direction and proceeding along the County Borough boundary to its intersection by the imaginary southerly projection of Whitestrand Road; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along the said imaginary projection and Whitestrand Road to its junction with Whitestrand Avenue; thence in a northerly direction along Whitestrand Avenue to its junction with Salthill Road Lower; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along Salthill Road Lower to the starting point.

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the intersection of the River Corrib by the imaginary north-easterly projection of the road leading to the University College Sports Ground at Dangan; thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along the River Corrib, passing west of Jordan's Island, to its intersection by the imaginary north-easterly projection of the north-western boundary of St. Francis' Home, Newcastle; thence in a south-westerly direction along the said imaginary projection, the said boundary and its south-westerly projection to its intersection by Newcastle Road; thence in a north-westerly direction along Newcastle Road to its intersection by the imaginary north-easterly projection of the rear boundary of the houses on the southern side of Sylvan Drive; thence in a south-westerly direction along the said imaginary projection, the said boundary and its imaginary south-westerly projection to its intersection by Thomas Hynes Road; thence in a south-easterly direction along Thomas Hynes Road to its junction with the un-named road leading to John Coogan Park; thence in a south-westerly direction along the said road to its junction with Circular Road; thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along Circular Road to its junction with Newcastle Road; thence in a south-easterly direction along Newcastle Road to its junction with the road leading to University College Sports Ground; thence in a north-easterly direction along the said road and its imaginary north-easterly projection to the starting point.

Commencing at the intersection of the County Borough boundary by Spiddal Road; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along Spiddal Road to its junction with Kingston; thence in a north-easterly direction along Kingston to its junction with Threadneedle Road: thence commencing in a southerly direction and proceeding along Threadneedle Road and its imaginary south-westerly projection to its intersection by the County Borough boundary: thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along the County Borough boundary to the starting point.

Lough Atalia

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of Dublin Road and Renmore Road; thence commencing in a south-westerly direction and proceeding along Renmore Road and its imaginary southerly projection to its intersection by the northern boundary of Dun Ui Mhaoiliosa: thence commencing in a westerly direction and proceeding along the northern and western boundary of Dun Ui Mhaoiliosa and along an imaginary line drawn due south from the south-western corner of the boundary of Dun Ui Mhaoiliosa to its intersection by the County Borough boundary; thence in a south-westerly direction along the County Borough boundary to its intersection by an imaginary straight line drawn due south from the easternmost point of Nimmo's Pier; thence due north along the said imaginary straight line to the easternmost point of Nimmo's Pier; thence in a north-easterly direction along an imaginary straight line drawn from last-mentioned point to the point of intersection of the Dublin-Galway railway line by the seaward channel of Lough Atalia; thence in a north-westerly direction along the Dublin-Galway railway line to its intersection by Lough Atalia Road; thence in a north-easterly direction along Lough Atalia Road and College Road to its intersection by the imaginary north-westerly projection of the south-western boundary of number 134 College Road: thence in a south-easterly direction along the said imaginary projection and the south-western boundary of number 134 College Road to its junction with the rear boundary of the houses on the eastern side of College Road; thence in a north-easterly direction along the said rear boundary and its imaginary north-easterly projection to its intersection by Dublin Road: thence in a south-easterly direction along Dublin Road to the starting point.

Commencing at the intersection of the County Borough boundary by Headford Road: thence in a south-westerly direction along Headford Road to its intersection by the Terryland River; thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along the Terryland River to its junction with the channel of the River Corrib east of Jordan's Island; thence in a southerly direction along the said channel to its junction with the western channel of the River Corrib. thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along the said western channel and the River Corrib to its junction with the County Borough boundary: thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along the County Borough boundary to the starting point.

Mervue

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of Tuam Road and the un-named road north-east of Ballybane Commercial Estate: thence in a south-easterly direction along the said road to its junction with Monivea Road; thence in a westerly direction along Monivea Road to its junction with Ballybaan Road (Road Number 865); thence in a south-easterly direction along Ballybaan Road (Road Number 865) to its junction with Dublin Road: thence in a north-westerly direction along Dublin Road to its junction with Michael Collins Road; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along Michael Collins Road to its junction with Connolly Avenue; thence in a north-westerly direction along Connolly Avenue to its junction with Monivea Road; thence in a north-easterly direction along Monivea Road to its junction with the un-named road east of Mervue Industrial Estate; thence in a north-easterly direction along the said road to its junction with Tuam Road; thence in a north-easterly direction along Tuam Road to the starting point.

Murroogh

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of Ballyloughaun Road and Dublin Road: thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along Dublin Road to its junction with the County Borough boundary; thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along the County Borough boundary to its intersection by an imaginary straight line drawn due south from the southern end of Ballyloughaun Road; thence due north along the said imaginary straight line to the southern end of Ballyloughaun Road; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along Ballyloughaun Road to the starting point.

Newcastle

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the intersection of the western channel of the River corrib by the imaginary north-easterly projection of the north-western boundary of the curtilage of St. Francis' Home, Newcastle: thence in a south-easterly direction along the River Corrib to its intersection by the imaginary north-easterly projection of that part of Distillery Road passing north of the Bank of Ireland premises; thence in a south-westerly direction along the said imaginary projection and Distillery Road to its junction with Newcastle Road; thence in a south-easterly direction along Newcastle Road to its junction with Seamus Quirke Road; thence in a south-westerly direction along Seamus Quirke Road to its junction with Circular Road: thence in a north-westerly direction along Circular Road to its junction with the un-named road leading to John Coogan Park: thence in a north-easterly direction along the said road to its junction with Thomas Hynes Road; thence in a north-westerly direction along Thomas Hynes Road to its intersection by the imaginary south-westerly projection of the rear boundary of the houses on the southern side of Sylvan Drive thence in a north-easterly direction along the said imaginary projection, the said boundary and its imaginary north-easterly projection to its intersection by Newcastle Road; thence in a south-easterly direction along Newcastle Road to its intersection by the imaginary south-westerly projection of the north-western boundary of the curtilage of St. Francis' Home; thence in a north-easterly direction along the said imaginary projection, the said boundary and its imaginary north-easterly projection to the starting point.

Commencing at the junction of Seamus Quirke Road and Newcastle Road; thence in a southerly direction along Newcastle Road to its junction with Shantalla Road; thence in a north-westerly direction along Shantalla Road and Rahoon Road to its junction with Seamus Quirke Road; thence in a north-easterly direction along Seamus Quirke Road to the starting point.

Taylors Hill

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of Bishop O'Donnell Road and Rahoon Road; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along Rahoon Road and Shantalla Road to its junction with St. Mary's Road; thence in a south-westerly direction along St. Mary's Road to its junction with Taylors Hill Road; thence commencing in a westerly direction and proceeding along Taylors Hill Road to its junction with Bishop O'Donnell Road; thence in a north-easterly direction along Bishop O'Donnell Road to the starting point.

Wellpark

That part of the county Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of Tuam Road and the un-named road west of the Industrial Development Authority premises on Tuam Road; thence in a southerly direction along the said un-named road to its junction with Monivea Road; thence in a south-westerly direction along Monivea Road to its junction with Connolly Avenue; thence in a south-easterly direction along Connolly Avenue to its junction with Michael Collins Road; thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along Michael Collins Road to its junction with Dublin Road; thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along Dublin Road and Moneenageisha Road to its junction with Tuam Road; thence in a north-easterly direction along Tuam Road to the starting point.
