EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (AMENDMENT) (NO. 2) ACT, 1985


AN ACT TO AMEND THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES ACT, 1972 , SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE TREATY CONCERNING THE ACCESSION OF THE KINGDOM OF SPAIN AND THE PORTUGUESE REPUBLIC TO THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY AND TO THE EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY AND THE DECISION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES RELATING TO THE ACCESSION OF THE KINGDOM OF SPAIN AND THE PORTUGUESE REPUBLIC TO THE EUROPEAN COAL AND STEEL COMMUNITY SHALL BE PART OF THE DOMESTIC LAW OF THE STATE. [26th November, 1985]

BE IT ENACTED BY THE OIREACHTAS AS FOLLOWS:—

Amendment of European Communities Act, 1972.

1.—The European Communities Act, 1972 , is hereby amended by the insertion, in the definition of “the treaties governing the European Communities” in section 1 (1), after paragraph (l) (inserted by the European Communities (Amendment) Act, 1985) of the following paragraphs:

“and

(m) the Treaty concerning the accession of the Kingdom of Spain and the Portuguese Republic to the European Economic Community and to the European Atomic Energy Community, signed at Lisbon and Madrid on the 12th day of June, 1985, and

(n) the decision, of the 11th day of June, 1985, of the Council of the European Communities relating to the accession of the Kingdom of Spain and the Portuguese Republic to the European Coal and Steel Community,”.

Short title, collective citation and commencement.

2.—(1) This Act may be cited as the European Communities (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1985.

(2) The collective citation, the European Communities Acts, 1972 to 1985, shall include this Act.

(3) This Act shall come into operation on such date as the Minister for Foreign Affairs appoints by order.
