HEALTH (ANTIOXIDANT IN FOOD) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1983.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 54 of the Health Act, 1947 (No. 28 of 1947), and after consultation with the Minister for Industry and Energy, the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism, and the Minister for Agriculture, hereby makes the following Regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Health (Antioxidant in Food) (Amendment) Regulations, 1983.

2. In these Regulations—

"the Principal Regulations" means the Health (Antioxidant in Food) Regulations, 1973 ( S.I. No. 148 of 1973 ).

3. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of April, 1983.

4. The Principal Regulations are hereby amended:—

(1) By the insertion in Column 2 of Part I of the First Schedule of the Serial Number "E 310" before "Propyl gallate" opposite the specified foods listed at (a), (b) and (c) in Column 1 of that Schedule.

(2) By the insertion in the Second Schedule in the Column headed "Serial Number", underneath Serial Number "E 341" of the Serial Number "E 342", and the insertion opposite that Serial Number in the column headed "Description of substance" of the words "Calcium disodium ethylene diamene tetra-acetate", and

(3) By the deletion from the Second Schedule of the substance "Diacetyl 5, 6-L ascorbic acid (Ascorbyle diacetate)" and Serial Number "E 303".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend Part I of the First Schedule, and the Second Schedule, of the Health (Antioxidant in Food) Regulations, 1973 (No. 148 of 1973) as follows:

In Column 2 of Part I of the First Schedule, the Serial Number "E 310" is inserted before "Propyl gallate" opposite the specified foods listed at (a), (b), and (c) in Column 1 of that Schedule.

In the Second Schedule, the substance Calcium disodium ethylene diamene tetra-acetate, Serial No. E. 342, is inserted, and the substance Diacetyl S, 6-L ascorbic acid (Ascorbyle diacetate), Serial No. E. 303, is deleted.

The Regulations implement Directive No. 81/962/EEC of 24th November, 1981.

The Regulations come into operation on 1st April, 1983.
