S.I. No. 270/1983 - European Communities (Agricultural Or Forestry Tractors Type Approval) Regulations, 1983.

I, AUSTIN DEASY, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Commission Directives 82/953/EEC of 15 December, 1982⁽¹⁾and 83/190/EEC of 28 March, 1983⁽²⁾and Council Directive 82/890/EEC of 17 December, 1982⁽³⁾, in so far as those Directives apply to the type approval of agricultural or forestry tractors and components, hereby make the following Regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Agricultural or Forestry Tractors Type Approval) Regulations, 1983, and shall come into operation on the 30th day of September, 1983.

2. The following Schedule is hereby substituted for Schedule I to the European Communities (Agricultural or Forestry Tractors Type Approval) Regulations, 1979 ( S.I. No. 137 of 1979 ) (inserted by the European Communities (Agricultural or Forestry Tractors Type Approval) Regulations, 1981 (S.I. No. 389 of 1981)):

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Regulations implement the provisions of Council Directive 82/890/EEC and Commission Directives 82/953/EEC and 83/190/EEC relating to the type approval of agricultural and forestry tractors and their component parts by including tractors with more than two axles, by increasing the maximum design speed from 25 to 30 kilometres per hour, and by amending the provisions in regard to the characteristics and testing procedures for roll-over protection (static testing) and the driver's seat.
