WHALE FISHERIES ACT, 1937 (EXTENSION TO MAMMALS OF THE ORDER CETACEA) ORDER, 1982.

I, BRENDAN DALY, Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 (2) of the Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 (No. 4 of 1937), and the Fisheries (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1978 ( S.I. No. 195 of 1978 ), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 (Extension to Mammals of the order Cetacea) Order, 1982.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of August, 1982.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

4. The provisions of the Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 (No. 4 of 1937), shall apply to all mammals of the order Cetacea.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of these Regulations is to extend the provisions of the Whale Fisheries Act, 1937 to cover all whale species including dolphins and porpoises.
