TELEX (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1981.

I, ALBERT REYNOLDS, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885, hereby make, with the consent of the Minister for Finance, the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Telex (Amendment) Regulations, 1981.

(2) The Telex Regulations, 1980 ( S.I. No. 197 of 1980 ), and these Regulations may be cited together as the Telex Regulations, 1980 and 1981.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of April, 1981.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

4. The Telex Regulations, 1980, are hereby amended by:

( a ) the addition of the following paragraph to Regulation 9:

"(4) The subscriber shall pay, on demand, to the Minister, for the installation, connection for use or provision of a Telex Exchange Line the charge specified in Part IV of the Schedule to these Regulations.";

( b ) the substitution of the following Regulation for Regulation 27:

"27. The Minister from time to time may increase or reduce the subscription or charges. In the event of an increase he shall give to the subscriber 28 days notice before the increase takes effect. When any increase or reduction takes effect, the agreement shall be construed as if the increased or reduced subscription or charges were provided for in the agreement.";

and:

( c ) the substitution of the following Schedule for the Schedule thereto:

Charges for Calls other than Subscriber Keyed Calls

2. Any other call to an installation in the State or in Northern Ireland, the distance between the telex exchanges connected for the purpose of the call being in excess of 80 kilometres

Part II

Charges for Subscriber Keyed Calls

The charge for a subscriber keyed call shall be the sum of 8.69p in respect of each period or part of a period of time specified in the Table to this part of this Schedule which is appropriate to the call and during which the call continues.

Description of Call

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of these Regulations is:

( a ) to provide for a connection fee of £150 for new telex subscribers.

( b ) to reduce the period of notice of increased charges to be given to subscribers from 1 calendar month to 28 days.

( c ) to provide for increase in charges of 15%.
