COURTS (SUPPLEMENTAL PROVISIONS) ACT, 1961 (SECTION 46) (No. 2) ORDER, 1980.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 46 (9) of the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) Act, 1961 (No. 39 of 1961) (inserted by section 1 of the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1968 )) as amended by section 11 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial, Parliamentary and Judicial Offices (Amendment) Act, 1977 (No. 29 of 1977), hereby make the following order:

1. This Order may be cited as the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) Act, 1961 (Section 46) (No. 2) Order, 1980.

2. (1) The sums payable by way of remuneration to the several judges of the Supreme Court, the High Court and the Circuit Court and the several justices of the District Court shall, with effect from the 26th day of June, 1980, be and be deemed to have been—

to the Chief Justice

£32,226 a year

to the President of the High Court

£27,946 a year

to each ordinary Judge of the

Supreme Court

£26,341 a year

to each ordinary Judge of the High

Court

£23,666 a year

to the President of the Circuit Court

£23,666 a year

to each ordinary Judge of the Circuit Court

£19,386 a year

to the President of the District Court to each other Justice of the District

£19,386 a year

Court

£16,176 a year

(2) Each sum specified in paragraph (1) of this Article shall, with effect from the 1st day of October, 1980, be and be deemed to have been increased by —

( a ) an amount equal to 8 per cent. of that sum,

and

( b ) £52.18,

being increases calculated in accordance with the provisions of clause 3.1. (excluding the third and fourth subparagraphs) of Part 2 of the Second National Understanding for Economic and Social Development dated October, 1980.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This order gives to the judiciary the increase with effect from 26 June, 1980 recommended in Report No. 20 of the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Sector (Prl. 8148) and the first phase increases provided for in the Second National Understanding for Economic and Social Development dated October, 1980.
