SOCIAL WELFARE (MODIFICATIONS OF INSURANCE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1980.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 12 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952) hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1980.

(2) In these Regulations the "Principal Regulations" means the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1979 ( S.I. No. 87 of 1979 ).

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 6th day of April, 1980.

3. Article 7 of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by—

(1) the deletion from sub-article (1) (i) thereof of the words "(otherwise than as a temporary member)";

(2) the substitution in sub-article (2) (a) (i) thereof of "0.55 per cent" for "0.5 per cent" and

(3) the substitution in sub-article (2) (a) (ii) thereof of "1.4 per cent" for "1.3 per cent".

4. Article 8 of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by—

(1) the deletion of sub-article (1) of that article and the substitution therefor of the following sub-article:—

"(1) This article applies to persons in employment as a member of the Defence Forces otherwise than as a member of the Permanent Defence Forces specified in Article 7(1) (b) of these Regulations";

(2) the deletion from sub-article (2) (c) of that article of the words "maternity benefit" and the substitution therefor of the words "maternity grant" and

(3) the deletion from sub-article (3) of that article of the words "sub-article (1) (a) or (b)" and the substitution therefor of the words "sub-article (1)".

5. Paragraph (a) of sub-article (2) of article 9 of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the substitution in sub-paragraph (i) thereof of "2.75 per cent" for "2.6 per cent" and the substitution in sub-paragraph (ii) thereof of "6.6 per cent" for "6.1 per cent".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1979 ( S.I. No. 87 of 1979 ) modify the provisions of the Social Welfare Acts in their application to persons employed in certain employments, for example, certain foreign-going seamen, pensionable civil servants and other public servants, members of the Defence Forces, certain out-workers and certain ministers of religion, and provide for special rates of contributions in respect of the employments concerned. These Regulations specify the special rates of contributions payable from 6th April, 1980.

These Regulations also make provision for the social insurance cover for employment as a N.C.O. or an enlisted member of the Women's Service Corps.
