Amendment of Building Societies Act, 1976.

20.—The Building Societies Act, 1976 , is hereby amended—

(a) in section 30, by the substitution of the following subsection for subsection (2):

“(2) If any officer, member or agent of the society refuses to produce to the inspector any book or document which it is his duty under this section to produce or refuses to answer any question put to him by the inspector with respect to the affairs of the society, he shall be guilty of an offence.”, and

(b) in section 77, by the substitution of the following subsection for subsection (1):

“(1) Whenever the Minister considers it expedient, in the interests of the orderly and proper regulation of building society business and having regard to the demand for loans for house purchase and the financial needs of the national housing programme, he may, with the consent of the Minister for Finance and after consultation with the Registrar, make regulations in relation to the purposes and amounts of loans by societies and the conditions subject to which such loans may be made, other than conditions in relation to the rate of interest chargeable on a loan.”.
