IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (NO. 227) (CERTAIN PROCESSED AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS) ORDER, 1977.

The Government, pursuant to a decision of the Commission of the European Communities dated the 23rd day of March, 1977, and addressed to the Government, and in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Imposition of Duties Act, 1957 (No. 7 of 1975), and section 2 of the Finance Act, 1962 (No. 15 of 1962), hereby order as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (No. 227) (Certain Processed Agricultural Products) Order, 1977, and shall come into operation on the 1st day of April, 1977.

2. A reference in this Order to a tariff heading shall be taken to be a reference to that tariff heading in the Imposition of Duties (No. 200) (Customs and Excise and Forms of Tariff) Order, 1972 ( S.I. No. 220 of 1972 ), as amended.

3. (1) This Order applies to goods which are specified at a tariff heading mentioned in column (1) of the Schedule to this Order.

(2) This Order does not apply to goods which are shown to the satisfaction of the Revenue Commissioners to have been produced or manufactured in a country other than the United Kingdom or the State.

4. In addition to any other duty of customs chargeable on goods to which this Order applies, there shall be charged, levied and paid on the importation into the State of those goods a duty of customs at the appropriate rate specified in column (2) of the Schedule to this Order.

5. Section 25 of the Finance Act, 1933 (No. 15 of 1933), shall not apply to the duty imposed by this Order.

6. The duty imposed by this Order is hereby placed under the care and management of the Revenue Commissioners.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of this Order is to impose additional duties on imports of certain U.K. manufactured processed agricultural products viz. sugar and chocolate confectionery (excluding chewing-gum), flour confectionery including biscuits, and ice-cream.
