INFECTIOUS DISEASES (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1976.

The Minister for Health in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 , 29 and 31 of the Health Act, 1947 (No. 28 of 1947), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. In these Regulations the expression "the Principal Regulations" means the Infectious Diseases Regulations, 1948 ( S.I. No. 99 of 1948 ).

2. The Second Schedule of the Principal Regulations shall be amended by the insertion under "Influenzal pneumonia" of "Lassa fever " and by the insertion under "Puerperal sepsis" of "Rabies".

3. Article 8 of the Principal Regulations shall be amended by the insertion before "tuberculosis" of "lassa fever,".

4. Article 9 of the Principal Regulations shall be amended by the insertion before "paratyphoid A" of "lassa fever,".

5. Article 11 of the Principal Regulations shall be amended by the insertion before "paratyphoid A" of "lassa fever, rabies,".

6. Sub-article (1) of Article 17 of the Principal Regulations shall be amended by the insertion before "plague" of "lassa fever,".

7. Sub-article (1) (b) of Article 28 of the Principal Regulations shall be amended by the insertion before "plague" of "lassa fever", and before "smallpox" of "rabies,".

8. Sub-article (2) of Article 29 of the Principal Regulations shall be amended by the insertion before "plague" of "lassa fever," and before "smallpox" or "rabies,".

9. These Regulations may be cited as the Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Regulations, 1976.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of these amending Regulations is to declare the diseases lassa fever and rabies to be infectious diseases under the Infectious Diseases Regulations 1948 for the purposes of Part IV of the Health Act, 1947 .
