EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (ALTERATION OF NAME OF DEPARTMENT AND TITLE OF MINISTER) ORDER, 1971.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 6 (1) of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1939 , (No. 36 of 1939), hereby order as follows :

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the External Affairs (Alteration of name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1971.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the third day of March, 1971.

2. The name of the Department of State, the present name whereof is, in the Irish language. An Roinn Gnóthai Eachtracha, and, in the English language, the Department of External Affairs, is hereby altered in the English language, to that of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

3. The title of the Minister having charge of a Department of State, whose present title is, in the Irish language, an tAire Gnóthai Eachtracha and in the English language, the Minister for External Affairs, is hereby altered in the English language, to that of the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

4. In any enactment—

(a) references to the Department of External Affairs shall be construed as references to the Department of Foreign Affairs,

(b) references to the Minister for External Affairs shall be construed as references to the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
