MATERNITY AND CHILD HEALTH SERVICES (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1966.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 5 of the Health Act, 1947 (No. 28 of 1947), and section 22 of the Health Act, 1953 (No. 26 of 1953) (as amended by section 2 of the Health Act, 1954 (No. 23 of 1954)), hereby makes the following regulations:—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Maternity and Child Health Services (Amendment) Regulations, 1966.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of April, 1966.

3. In these Regulations :

"the Principal Regulations" means the Maternity and Child Health Services Regulations, 1954 ( S.I. No. 98 of 1954 ) ;

"the Regulations of 1956" means the Maternity and Child Health Services (Amendment) Regulations, 1956 ( S.I. No. 44 of 1956 ).

4. The Principal Regulations, as amended by the Maternity and Child Health Services (Amendment) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 265 of 1958 ), are hereby further amended by the substitution of "one thousand two hundred pounds" for "eight hundred pounds" in sub-article (6) of article 10, in sub-article (4) of article 17, in sub-article (3) of article 20 and in sub-article (4) of article 22.

5. Each reference in the Principal Regulations or in the Regulations of 1956 to section 15 of the Health Act, 1953 , shall be construed as a reference to that section as amended by any Act passed after the passing of that Act ]including the Health and Mental Treatment (Amendment) Act, 1966 (No. 2 of 1966)].

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

Under the Health and Mental Treatment (Amendment) Act, 1966 , the limit on yearly means for eligibility for the Maternity and Infant Care Service is raised from 1st April, 1966 from £800 to £1,200. For farmers, the valuation limit is raised from £50 to £60.

The purpose of these Regulations is to make consequential changes in references in the main Regulations on this service to the existing limit on yearly means and to adapt some other references in these regulations.
