IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 156) (TWINE, ETC.) ORDER, 1966.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Imposition of Duties Act, 1957 (No. 7 of 1957), and section 22 of the Finance Act, 1962 (No. 15 of 1962), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (No. 156) (Twine, Etc.) Order, 1966.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of March, 1966.

3. In this Order " the Principal Order " means the Imposition of Duties (No. 128) (Customs Duties and Form of Customs Tariff) Order, 1962 ( S.I. No. 163 of 1962 ).

4. The duty of customs imposed by paragraph 5 of and mentioned at tariff heading number 59.04 (A) in the Schedule to the Principal Order is hereby varied by—

(a) the substitution for the matter in the first column of that Schedule at that tariff heading number of the following :

" Machine made braided or plaited material

(1) Of vegetable fibres

(2) Other ",

(b) the deletion of the matter in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at that tariff heading number,

(c) the insertion in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at tariff heading number 59.04 (A) (1) (inserted by this Order) of " (a) ", " 60% ", " 60% " and " 331/3% ", respectively,

(d) the insertion in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at tariff heading number 59.04 (A) (2) (inserted by this Order) of " (a) ", " 60% ", " 60% " and " 40% ", respectively.

5. The duty of customs imposed by paragraph 5 of and mentioned at tariff heading number 59.04 (B) in the Schedule to the Principal Order is hereby varied by—

(a) the substitution for the matter in the first column of that Schedule at that tariff heading number of the following :

" Other ",

(b) the substitution for the matter in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at that tariff heading number of " (a) ", " 60% ", " 60% ", and " 331/3% ", respectively.

6. The Imposition of Duties (No. 131) (Reduction of Rates of Customs Duties) Order, 1962 ( S.I. No. 214 of 1962 ), and the Imposition of Duties (No. 142) (Reduction of Rates of Customs Duties) Order, 1963 ( S.I. No. 262 of 1963 ), shall apply and have effect in relation to goods to which this Order applies as if this Order had come into operation immediately before the 1st day of January, 1963.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order provides for the extension of the scope of the existing duty on twine, cordage, ropes and cables of vegetable fibres to similar goods of man-made fibres.
