Acceptable root of title.

16.—(1) The Judicial Commissioner may, notwithstanding the provisions of the Land Purchase Acts or any other enactment, at his discretion, issue general directions to an Examiner authorised for the purpose of subsection (1) of section 15 of this Act, to accept, as the period of commencement of title which the owner, tenant or other claimant shall be required to deduce, a period of not less than—

(a) twelve years beginning on the date of a conveyance, transfer or assignment for valuable consideration of the land or holding, and ending on the date on which the land or tenant's interest therein vested in the Land Commission, or

(b) thirty years ending on the date on which the land or tenant's interest therein vested in the Land Commission,

whichever is the shorter.

(2) In the event of a claim against the purchase money being unsatisfied on distribution by reason of the exercise of the discretion conferred by subsection (1) of this section, the provisions of section 34 of the Land Act, 1931 , regarding compensation shall apply.
