SOCIAL WELFARE (MODIFICATIONS OF INSURANCE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1964.

I, CAOIMHGHÍN Ó BEOLÁIN, Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 and 12 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952) hereby make the following Regulations with the sanction of the Minister for Finance :—

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1964.

(2) The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 to 1963, and these Regulations shall be construed as one and may be cited collectively as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 to 1964.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 4th day of January, 1965.

3. The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 ( S.I. No. 236 of 1956 ) shall be amended by the substitution for article 7 thereof (as substituted by article 3 of the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1959 ( S.I. No. 9 of 1959 ) of the following :—

" 7. In the case of persons employed in either of the employments specified in paragraphs 6 and 7 of Part 1 of the First Schedule to the Act, the provisions of the Acts in their application shall be modified by the insertion immediately after the word " agriculture " in paragraph 3 of the Second Schedule to the Act of the following words :—

' or in the employments specified in paragraphs 6 and 7 of Part 1 of the First Schedule to this Act, whether in one or more of such employments, and in case the employment is of a male employed contributor and is mainly in one or both of the employments specified in the said paragraphs 6 and 7, not being employment—

(A) as respects employment specified in the said paragraph 6, of a person who either during the twelve months immediately preceding the commencement of that employment has, or would but for his being unemployed or incapable of work have, been wholly or mainly engaged in, and derived his livelihood wholly or mainly from, the employment so specified or who may reasonablybe expected so to be engaged and so to derive his livelihood during the twelve months following the commencement of that employment ;

(B) as respects employment specified in the said paragraph 7, as a weaver,' "

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations further amend the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 ( S.I. No. 236 of 1956 ) so as to provide that persons in insurable employment who are wholly or mainly engaged in sharefishing and who derive their livelihood wholly or mainly from that occupation must as from 4th January, 1965, be insured at the ordinary rate of contribution instead of at a reduced rate.
