PUBLIC RECORDS OFFICE (TIMES OF OPENING) RULES, 1964.

WHEREAS section 17 of the Public Records (Ireland) Act, 1867, provides for the making of rules by the Master of the Rolls for the management of the Public Records Office :

AND WHEREAS in pursuance of subsection (2) of section 11 of the Adaptation of Enactments Act, 1922 (No. 2 of 1922), it was determined by the Taoiseach by instrument under his Official Seal dated the 23rd day of May, 1951, that the Minister for Justice exercises in the State functions corresponding to those formerly exercised by the Master of the Rolls under the said section 17 :

NOW I, CHARLES J. HAUGHEY, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 17 of the Public Records (Ireland) Act, 1867, hereby make the following Rules:

1.—(1) These Rules may be cited as the Public Records Office (Times of Opening) Rules, 1964.

(2) These Rules shall come into operation on the 6th day of July, 1964.

2.—The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Rules.

3.—(1) The Search Rooms in the Public Records Office shall be open to persons desiring to inspect or search records or documents between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on every week-day except—

(a) the week-days in the period from Christmas Day to New Year's Day,

(b) a week-day which is Saint Patrick's Day,

(c) Good Friday,

(d) Easter Monday and the Tuesday immediately following Easter Monday,

(e) the first Monday in August, and

(f) any other week-day which is a day appointed to be a public holiday.

(2) In this Rule " week-day " does not include Saturday.

4.—Rules 1 and 2 of the Rules, dated the 2nd day of April, 1906, for the Admission of such Persons as ought to be admitted to the use of the Records, Calendars, Catalogues and Indexes under section 17 of the Public Records (Ireland) Act, 1867, are hereby revoked.

These Rules prescribe the days and hours during which the Public Records Office shall be open for public business.
